All three plans include the BEST CARE+ guarantee: an appointment with a specialist within five working days, a detailed recommendation or a second opinion in case of serious illness. Compact Health also covers ambulance transport up to 400 km and rooming-in for a parent staying with a hospitalised child up to age 12.

The range includes other contracts: Hospital Health (hospital only), EU Plus (costs remaining after an EU scheme’s benefits), Complete Health (full cover, even without statutory health insurance), Continue Plus (loss of income for liberal professions and the self-employed) and the BEST CARE PREMIUM+ option.

Waiting periods

  • Three months as a rule from the start date; it does not apply in case of accident and can be waived on presentation of a medical certificate or because of previous insurance.
  • Eight months for childbirth, psychotherapy, dental treatment, dental prostheses and orthodontics.
  • Newborns: a child insured within two months of birth is enrolled directly, with no medical questionnaire.

Getting reimbursed

Supporting documents are sent through the LALUX easyAPP, the easyAPP Home portal or by post. For an invoice paid under direct immediate payment (PID), only the CNS statement is needed; for full cover (Complete Health), DKV requires the originals. At the start of each year, DKV provides a certificate stating the premiums deductible under article 111 L.I.R.

Term and cancellation

The medical expenses contract is concluded for an initial term of two years; the first insurance year ends on 31 December, and the following ones match calendar years. It can be cancelled at the end of an insurance year, at the earliest at the end of the second, with 30 days’ notice: the cancellation must reach DKV by 1 December at the latest, in writing and signed by the insured person. Daily allowance insurance can be cancelled each year with the same notice. Health insurance falls outside the legal annual termination right: our guide to switching insurance explains this point.

Financial strength

DKV Luxembourg reported a solvency ratio of 353.46% at 31 December 2025, up from 334.87% a year earlier, on written premiums of €68.93 million, up 16.58%. The LALUX group as a whole reported a ratio of 207.45%.

DKV or CMCM?

DKV applies a medical questionnaire and prices each person, but its ceilings often exceed a mutual’s on eyewear, laser surgery or first-class hospital stays with the head physician. CMCM, for its part, accepts everyone with no questionnaire and covers the family at no extra cost. Our health insurance comparison puts the offers side by side.
