Our methodology

Last updated: 3 September 2026

This page explains how the LuxAssurance comparisons and guides are built, where the figures come from, what we do not do, and how to report an error.

1. Sources

We only use public, identifiable sources:

Every guide and article ends with a “Sources” block listing the pages consulted and the date they were checked. Comparisons show their update date and the date of the price survey.

2. Insurers and products compared

The comparisons cover the insurers most present on the Luxembourg retail market, by line of business: Foyer, LALUX, AXA and Baloise for car, home, life and professional liability; CMCM, DKV, Foyer and AXA for top-up health cover; Cigna, Allianz Care and April for international cover. An insurer missing from a comparison is not judged inferior: it simply has not been documented yet. The list grows with each update.

3. Comparison criteria

For each product we record the cover included and optional, the excesses, the ceilings, the notable exclusions, the associated services and, where published, the premium ranges. Where an insurer does not publish a piece of information, the cell shows “n/a”; we do not estimate it. Nor do we interpolate incomplete regulatory scales: for example, only the bonus-malus levels whose coefficient is documented are shown.

4. Prices

Price ranges are collected on a given date from the insurers’ public simulators and from the market guides cited, for the standard profiles described in each comparison. The current version relies on the August 2026 survey. These amounts are indicative: the real premium depends on your profile, the vehicle or the home, the options and the insurer’s pricing at the time you sign. Only a named quote is binding.

5. Independence

No insurer takes part in writing the comparisons, in choosing the products compared or in the order in which they appear. The pages carry no advertising and no third-party advertising trackers. Quote requests are forwarded to an insurance broker licensed in Luxembourg, who advises and makes proposals under their own responsibility; LuxAssurance does not sell any policy. The service is free for the user. The broker pays LuxAssurance a fixed fee per quote request forwarded, the same whatever the insurer chosen: this remuneration depends neither on the insurer nor on the policy taken out, and therefore has no bearing on the comparisons.

6. Updates

Comparisons are reviewed at least once a year and after every significant regulatory or pricing change: a new tax ceiling, a reformed scale, an insurer overhauling a product range. The facts in the guides were fully re-checked against primary sources on 17 August 2026. The date shown on each page is that of its last substantive change.

8. Corrections

If you spot an error, outdated information or a missing source, write to contact@luxassurance.lu and name the page concerned. We check at the source, correct the page and refresh its update date. Reports concerning a figure or a rule are handled first.
